Stainless Steel Clad Plate

Stainless steel clad plate is a bimetallic composite material where a stainless steel cladding layer is metallurgically bonded to a carbon steel or low‑alloy steel base metal. It merges the outstanding corrosion resistance, sanitation and surface performance of stainless steel with the high mechanical strength, toughness and cost‑effectiveness of base steel. Compared with solid stainless steel plate, it significantly reduces material cost while satisfying anti‑corrosion and structural load requirements.

Manufacturing Methods

1. Explosive Cladding: Controlled explosive energy creates high‑speed impact to realize firm metallurgical bonding between two metal plates. Suitable for various dissimilar metal combinations, ideal for thick‑specification clad plates.
2. Hot‑roll Cladding: Assembled metal blanks are heated and rolled under high pressure in hot rolling mills to achieve interfacial bonding. Features high production efficiency, uniform thickness, fit for mass production of medium‑thin plates.
3. Explosive‑rolling Composite: Combines explosive cladding and hot rolling. First complete explosive bonding, then carry out hot rolling to obtain finished products with precise dimensional tolerance.

Common Material Combinations

• Cladding layer (stainless steel): 304, 304L, 316L, 321, 2205 duplex stainless steel, etc.
• Base layer (substrate): Q245R, Q355R, Q345B, 16MnR and other carbon & low‑alloy steels.

Cladding thickness normally ranges from 1.5 mm to 8 mm, while the base layer can be produced according to structural strength requirements.
