Product Overview
The ABB RTAC-01-KIT is a resolver-to-digital interface card kit (RTAC-01 module plus mounting hardware/cable harness) used to connect a motor-mounted resolver to ABB low- and medium-voltage AC drives — including ACS350, ACS510, ACS550, ACS580, ACS880 series. It enables closed-loop vector control (Closed Loop Flux Vector / DTC with feedback) by converting the resolver's sine/cosine analog signals into a digital position/speed value for the drive microprocessor. The "KIT" designation typically includes the RTAC-01 board, ribbon cable, and mounting screws.
Closed-Loop Control Enablement: Allows ABB drives to run in speed-controlled closed-loop vector mode or torque control mode with a standard 2-pole resolver — no encoder required.
Plug & Play with ABB Drives: Auto-recognized by the drive firmware; parameter group (e.g., 99.03 MOTOR CONTROL MODE = CLOSED LOOP) activates resolver feedback automatically.
Noise Immunity: Resolver technology is inherently immune to EMI — superior to some incremental encoders in electrically noisy environments (welding, large VFDs nearby).
Kit Completeness: Includes the interface card, interconnect cable, and mounting hardware — no separate harness ordering needed for standard installations.

High-Performance Speed/Torque Control: Cranes, winders, extruders, and test stands requiring tight speed regulation with a rugged resolver feedback device.

Note: The RTAC-01 card is not an incremental encoder (HTL/TTL/RS422) interface — for quadrature encoders, use the RTAC-02 (Encoder Interface Card) instead. Verify your motor has a 2-pole resolver (SIN/COS/REF) before ordering. Some compact drives (ACS355 etc.) may have the option slot on the control unit; larger ACS880 uses a separate I/O extension rack — confirm slot availability in the drive manual.
