Description:

Remote methane leak detectors (RMLD) are portable, laser-based instruments using Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) to identify methane from a distance, typically up to 30–200 meters (100–600+ ft). 

The RMLD is Intrinsically Safety (IS) with a rating of Class I, Division II, which allows operators to use it indoors and within potentially hazardous environments such as compressor stations. The field rugged design operates under a variety of field conditions, can detect up to 450 feet away allowing operators to safely survey in areas that may be difficult to reach such as busy roadways, yards with dogs, fenced off areas, compressor stations, overhead piping and other hard to access places.


The L20 remote laser gas detector has the long detection range on the market, with Bluetooth connection to mobile ADA software, is ideal for recording GPS-linked readings along with notes and photos of monitored components and locations.

Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS):

These Remote Laser Methane Leak Detectors employ a principle called “Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy” (TDLAS) to detect methane. A laser beam is emitted at a specific wavelength, which interacts with methane molecules in the target area. Methane absorbs light at certain wavelengths, allowing the detector to measure the intensity of the absorbed light. The absorbed light intensity is then correlated to the methane concentration in the sampled area.
