Key Composition Benefits
High Nickel + Chromium: Provides excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion in aggressive environments including seawater and various acids.
Molybdenum + Niobium: Significantly improve strength at elevated temperatures and enhance resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
Low Carbon, Sulfur, and Phosphorus: Minimizes carbide precipitation and hot-cracking, improving weldability and material toughness.
Controlled Aluminum and Titanium: Maintains weldability and ductility by preventing excessive strengthening precipitates that could cause brittleness.
Application Note: ASTM B444 specifically covers seamless pipe and tube made from this alloy. The controlled composition ensures the material meets mechanical and corrosion-resistance requirements for demanding applications in aerospace, chemical processing, marine, and oil & gas industries.
