Alloy K500 (often written as Monel K-500 or UNS N05500) is a nickel-copper-based alloy with added aluminum and titanium that provides high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in marine and chemical environments.

Key Composition Benefits
High Nickel and Copper Content
The high Ni–Cu base provides excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, brine, and many acids and alkalis, while maintaining good mechanical properties across a wide temperature range.
Aluminum and Titanium Additions
The 2–3% Al and ~0.4–0.8% Ti serve as key strengthening elements. After age-hardening heat treatment, they form finely dispersed Ni₃(Al,Ti) precipitates that significantly increase strength and hardness while largely retaining corrosion resistance.
Controlled Impurities
Elements like carbon, sulfur, silicon, and manganese are tightly controlled to improve weldability, toughness, and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking. Low sulfur particularly enhances corrosion resistance in reducing environments.
