1.4436 Stainless Steel Overview
1.4436 is a European (EN) stainless steel grade designation. It's an austenitic stainless steel, very similar to 316L, but with slightly higher molybdenum content for better corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-containing environments like seawater or salt spray.

Key Characteristics
The higher molybdenum content (up to about 3%) differentiates 1.4436 from the more common 1.4404/316L, and improves pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides
It is non-magnetic in the solution-annealed condition and weldable, like other austenitic stainless steels
In many applications it's used where standard 316L might be borderline in terms of corrosion resistance, but where duplex or higher-alloy steels (like 1.4462) would be overkill or too costly
Important Note: For exact composition for specification or certification purposes, always refer to the relevant material standard (e.g., EN 10088) or the mill test certificate (MTC) from your supplier, as each producer works within the allowed ranges and actual values can vary slightly within those limits.
