1.4547 steel is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel, also known under trade names like Superaustenitic stainless or by EN designation X1CrNiMoCuN20-18-7. It is designed for excellent corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-containing and acidic environments such as seawater and chemical processing applications.

Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.7%
Manganese (Mn): ≤ 2.0%
Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.03%

Nickel (Ni): 17.5 – 18.5%
Molybdenum (Mo): 6.0 – 6.5%
Copper (Cu): 0.5 – 1.5%
Nitrogen (N): 0.18 – 0.25%
Material Properties & Benefits
Key Composition Advantages
High Chromium (≈20%) + Molybdenum (≈6%) + Nitrogen (≈0.2%): Provides very high pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, significantly better than standard 316L stainless steel. Suitable for aggressive chloride environments and many acids.
High Nickel (≈18%): Stabilizes austenitic structure; improves toughness and corrosion resistance.
Copper Addition: Improves resistance to certain reducing acids, especially sulfuric acid.
Very Low Carbon Content: Minimizes risk of carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion after welding.
