Alloy Benefits
High Chromium (≈20%): Forms a stable, protective chromium oxide film providing strong general corrosion resistance
High Nickel (≈25%): Stabilizes the austenitic structure, improves toughness and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking
High Molybdenum (4–5%): Greatly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments
Added Nitrogen (0.10–0.20%): Increases strength without sacrificing ductility and further boosts pitting resistance
Application Scope
1.4439 is specified when standard 316/316L stainless steel provides insufficient corrosion resistance. This material is ideal for aggressive media, desalination plants, offshore structures, and chemical processing equipment where superior performance is required.
