Types of "Wooden" Finishes on ACP
There are two primary methods to achieve the wood look:
1. PVDF Paint / Coil Coating (Most Common)
Process: A wood-grain pattern is printed onto the aluminum sheet using high-quality, durable paints (like PVDF) before it is bonded to the core.
Characteristics:
Cost-effective: The most economical way to get a wood aesthetic with ACM benefits.
Variety: Available in countless wood types (teak, oak, walnut, cedar, etc.) and colors.
Durability: Excellent resistance to fading, chipping, and weathering. Low maintenance.
Limitation: It is a 2D printed image. It looks like wood from a distance but lacks the tactile texture of real wood.
2. Laminated Films / Overlays
Process: A thin film (often PVC-based) with a photorealistic wood-grain image and a textured surface is laminated onto the aluminum sheet.
Characteristics:
Texture: Has a 3D embossed texture that feels more like real wood.
Realism: Higher visual and tactile realism than painted finishes.
Durability: The laminate layer provides additional scratch and wear resistance.
Key Advantages of Using Wooden ACP vs. Real Wood
Lightweight: ACM panels are much lighter than solid wood or wood composite panels, making them easier and cheaper to transport and install, especially on high-rise buildings.
Dimensional Stability: Unlike real wood, it will not warp, crack, split, or rot. It is impervious to moisture and insects.
Flatness & Consistency: Provides a perfectly flat, uniform appearance with no knots or grain variations, ideal for modern architectural designs.
Fire Safety (with proper core): When specified with an A2 or B1 fire-rated mineral core, it is far superior to combustible real wood or PE-core panels. (This is a critical specification point for exterior cladding.)
Low Maintenance: Requires no sealing, staining, or painting. Clean with simple detergent and water.
Ease of Fabrication: Can be easily cut, bent, folded, and routed into complex shapes (curves, louvers, etc.) using standard metalworking tools.
