Austenitic stainless steels are the most commonly used stainless steels. This class of stainless steel includes 200 and 300 series alloys, which are hardenable by cold working. The 300 series alloys contain chromium and nickel as their major alloying additions. Type 304 (also known as 18-8) is the most widely used of all stainless steel alloys. Type 300 series alloys available in COIL at Sidecuts.com® include 301, 302/304, 304L, 305, 316/316L, and 321.
Precipitation hardening (PH) stainless steels are designed to be formable in the solution annealed condition and can subsequently be hardened by heat treating to strength levels several times that of Type 304. PH grades contain chromium and nickel as the major alloying elements.
Martensitic Stainless Steels, like Type 410, are hardenable stainless steels which combine superior wear and corrosion resistance. Type 410 is available in limited quantities in COIL.
Ferritic Stainless Steels, like Type 430, are magnetic stainless steels that are oxidation resistant at elevated temperatures and ideal for forming operations. Type 430 is available in limited quantities in COIL.

The 10.5% minimum content makes steel approximately 200 times more resistant to corrosion than steels without chromium. Other favorable properties for consumers are its high strength and durability, its high and low temperature resistance, increased formability and easy fabrication, low maintenance, long lasting, attractive appearance and it is environmentally friendly and recyclable.
Once stainless steel is put into service, it does not need to be treated, coated or painted.
