Scrap Receiving & Pre-Processing:
Incoming Inspection & Weighing: Scrap is sorted (e.g., UBCs, cuttings, turnings, coated scrap) and logged.
Size Reduction: Shears, shredders, or crushers process scrap into optimal furnace charge size.
De-coating/Thermal Cleaning: A rotary or multi-chamber furnace removes paints, lacquers, oils, and other contaminants through controlled pyrolysis, recovering energy and preparing clean charge.
Charging & Melting:
Automated Charging System: Conveyors (belt, vibrating) or charging buckets deliver pre-treated scrap to the furnace.
High-Efficiency Melting Furnace: Typically a dual-chamber or rotary melting furnace is used to maximize thermal efficiency, minimize oxidation (metal loss), and ensure uniform melt. Advanced burner systems and heat recovery are standard.
Refining & Alloying:
Molten Metal Treatment: In the holding/casting furnace, the melt undergoes critical refining:
