Rosewood Wood Veneer Santos Flat Cut has brown or dark violet brown heartwood. It has a straight to irregular grain.
Santos Rosewood is primarily found in Brazil. It is commonly known as Honduran Rosewood, Pao Rosa, Bolivian, Caviuna, Jacaranda pardo, pau ferro, jacaranda amarello and caroba.
This is one of the world’s most loved and prized veneers. It ranges in color from lustrous chocolate-brown to purple-black with a cream colored sapwood—all very saturated with a vivid contrast. It has a lively variegated stripe and occasional bee’s wing figure and, when flat cut, produces a characteristic cathedral pattern. Increasingly used as a substitute for the extremely rare but prized Rio rosewood.
Santos rosewood veneer is often used for luxury articles, for building pianos and exquisite furniture. It is considered one of the most expensive and beautiful types of wood.
Brazilian Rosewood, an extremely hard wood, was easily worked with machine and hand tools. On the other hand, Santos Rosewood has an interlocking grain and can be difficult to work.
