These symptoms are consistent with an inlet valve not seating properly. Before ordering the kit, manually cycle the unloader with the compressor stopped to check for full travel and resistance. If mechanical movement is normal, the seat or seal condition inside the assembly is the probable cause, and a head repair kit is the correct solution.
At 40,000-hour overhaul, should we fit a head repair kit or replace the full air end?
A head repair kit restores valve and sealing components only—it does not address rotor wear, bearing clearances, or timing gear condition.
