Product Details
The AB 1769-ASCII is a 1769 CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 compatible module. This specialty provides connection to devices that supports American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) protocol. Typical devices that utilize this protocol are Barcode Readers which are commonly installed in factory automation applications.
The 1769-ASCII has Two (2) individually isolated ASCII ports. Each port may function simultaneous at different configuration and communicate to different set of devices. The ASCII ports are capable of being configured as alternating mode or dual simultaneous mode and can be used as RS233 / RS422 (Port1) and RS485 (Port 2) independently.
If used with MicroLogix 1500, this module is configured using RSLogix 500 programming software. If used with 1769 CompactLogix system, the required programming software is RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 programming software. Selection of RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 depends on the controller and module revision. If this module will be installed to an existing 1769 assembly, it must follow the firmware used by the existing modules. If this module will be installed in an entirely new assembly, the latest firmware may be used.
The 1769-ASCII has a power supply distance rating of 4 modules. This means that the module must be installed not more that Four (4) modules away from the 1769 CompactLogix Power Supply. It is backplane powered and may connect to any adjacent module including the 1769 CompactLogix Controller. In a MicroLogix system, the module is installed beside the base unit or to an adjacent 1769 Compact module. In both instances, the module does not require an external power supply.
