The primary function of the Fuel Pump Module Controller is to precisely regulate the operation of the fuel pump, encompassing start/stop control and speed modulation, thereby meeting the engine's fuel requirements under varying operating conditions. The Engine Control Module transmits commands to the FPMC based on signals such as engine load and rotational speed. The FPMC consequently adjusts the supply voltage or duty cycle to the fuel pump, thereby regulating the pump's output pressure and flow rate.
The FPMC also incorporates monitoring and protective functions for the fuel pump. It typically houses an internal temperature sensor to monitor the pump's operating temperature. Should the fuel pump overheat due to overload or inadequate cooling, the FPMC promptly reduces the pump's speed or halts operation to prevent further damage. This overheat protection mechanism extends the fuel pump's service life. Furthermore, the FPMC monitors the fuel pump's operating current or status. Upon detecting anomalies—such as pump inactivity or abnormal rotational speed—it transmits a fault signal to the ECM. This triggers the vehicle to enter limp-home mode or illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp, alerting the driver to arrange timely repairs.
The fuel pump module controller communicates with the engine control unit via wiring harnesses. The engine ECM transmits control signals to the FPMC based on engine operating conditions, and the FPMC adjusts the fuel pump's operating parameters accordingly. Simultaneously, the FPMC feeds back signals from the fuel level sensor to the ECM, enabling the ECM to monitor the remaining fuel in the tank and alert the driver to refuel when fuel levels become critically low. It can be said that the FPMC acts as a bridge between the ECM and the fuel pump within the fuel supply system, enabling precise control and condition monitoring of the fuel system.
