The full name of VTEC system is variable valve timing and lift electronic control system. Honda launched its self-developed "Variable valve timing and lift electronic control system" in 1989, which is the first valve control system in the world that can simultaneously control valve opening and closing time and lift and other two different situations.
VTEC system is the full name of variable valve timing and lift electronic control system, is Honda's proprietary technology, it can with the engine speed, load, water temperature and other operating parameters change, and the appropriate adjustment of valve timing and valve lift, so that the engine at high and low speed can achieve the highest efficiency.
In the VTEC system, there are three CAM surfaces on the intake camshaft, respectively, and three rocker arms on the shaft of the shaking arm. When the engine is at low speed or low load, there is no connection between the three rocker arms, and the left and right rocker arms respectively push two intake valves, so that the two have different timing and lift to form the squeezing effect. At this time, the middle high-speed rocker arm does not push the valve, but only does ineffective movement on the rocker arm shaft.
When the speed continues to increase, the sensor of the engine will monitor the load, speed, speed and water temperature and other parameters to the computer, the computer to analyze the information. When the need to change to high-speed mode is reached, the computer sends a signal to open the VTEC solenoid valve.
The pressure oil enters the rocker arm shaft to push the piston, so that the three rocker arms are connected into one, so that the two valves work in high-speed mode. When the engine speed is reduced to the need to change again when the valve is on time, the computer sends a signal again to open the pressure beginning of the VTEC solenoid valve, so that the pressure oil is drained and the valve returns to the low speed working mode again.
