The roller (commonly referred to as the crushing roll or roll shell) is the core working component in a brick plant’s roll crusher (double‑roll crusher). It is a high‑consumption, high‑value critical wear part that directly contacts and processes the raw material.
During operation, two rollers are driven by motors to rotate in opposite directions synchronously. Raw materials – such as shale, coal gangue, clay, and other common brick‑making feedstocks – enter the crushing chamber between the two rolls. There, they are subjected to intense compressive and shearing forces, which crush and grind the material down to the required particle size. This processed material then meets the forming requirements for subsequent brick production processes.
In a brick plant, rollers are typically installed in pairs on a double‑roll crusher or a roll crusher machine.
1. Operating principle: The two rollers are driven by electric motors to rotate in opposite directions simultaneously.
2. Crushing process: Raw materials – such as shale, coal gangue, and other common feedstocks – enter the gap between the two rollers. There, they are subjected to powerful compressive forces and shearing actions, which crush and grind the material into smaller particles.
3. Key structural feature: One roller is fixed in position, while the bearing housing of the other roller is supported by springs. This movable roller can shift laterally along guide rails, providing a cushioning effect and overload protection. When an excessively hard or unbreakable object passes through, the spring‑supported roller retreats automatically, thereby preventing damage to the machine.
4. Auxiliary device: A scraper (or mud scraper) is typically installed beneath each roller. Its function is to continuously remove sticky material that adheres to the roller surface, ensuring that the crushing efficiency remains high and the product particle size stays uniform.
