Project Background

The client is a South African general aviation distributor, planning to build a service centre at Lanseria Airport integrating aircraft display, maintenance & custody, and aviation material storage. The local South African steel structure codes adopt the British standard system, with special local requirements for wind load and lightning protection.

Technical Solution

• Hangar: Large-span box steel truss, clear span of 45m × clear height of 12m, intermediate column-free
• Steel frame + glass curtain wall + aluminium alloy roofing for exhibition hall and office section
• 75mm rock wool sandwich panels for enclosure, colour scheme complying with the airport’s overall visual guidelines
• Lightning strip system installed on roof, designed in accordance with SANS 62305 standard

The combination of large-area floor-to-ceiling glass and steel frame in the exhibition hall imposes extremely high requirements on installation precision.
