A prefabricated steel structure building is a bolt-together steel frame system in which every column, rafter, purlin, and connection plate is precision-cut, drilled, and welded in our factory — then containerized and shipped to your site for rapid assembly.

Project Background

The client is a private equestrian enthusiast and amateur coach with 6 horses, requiring an all-year indoor training facility. New Brunswick has long winters from November to April with alternating rain and snow, leaving outdoor riding areas usable for less than 5 months per year. The specified snow load is 3.0 kPa (Ss=2.5, Sr=0.5).

Technical Solution

• Portal frame structure with a clear span of 14 m and bay spacing of 5.0 m. Eaves raised to 4.5 m (minimum clearance for horse riding ≥ 3.6 m).
• Roof: 100 mm rock wool sandwich panels to prevent condensation dripping in winter which may spook horses.
• Wall: 75 mm rock wool sandwich panels. 20 mm thick rubber protective liners installed on interior wall base up to 1.8 m height to protect steel wall panels from horse kicks.
• Floor: Riding area paved with professional equestrian silica-fiber sand mixture, 120 mm thick, with drainage layer and geotextile underneath.
• Natural lighting: Continuous translucent FRP daylight bands along both eaves, accounting for approximately 20% of wall area.
• Ventilation: 4 silent variable-speed exhaust fans mounted at the ridge to avoid noise startling horses.
• Ancillary facilities: A 4 m × 6 m tack room and hay storage room partitioned at one end.

Project Highlights

Continuous FRP daylight bands at eaves deliver even natural daylight, eliminating the need for artificial lighting during daytime. The indoor temperature can stay above 0°C in winter relying solely on heat generated by horses plus rock wool insulation, with no auxiliary heating required.
