Product Overview

RG316D is an enhanced upgraded version of the classic RG316 coaxial cable. Retaining RG316's well-proven 50 Ω core construction—featuring an SCCS inner conductor, PTFE dielectric and FEP jacket—it upgrades to counter-wound dual-layer silver-plated copper braid shielding (2:SC). This interlocking braided mesh greatly lowers transfer impedance and delivers outstanding EMI/RFI suppression. At the cost of minor reduction in flexibility, the cable maintains full signal integrity for microvolt-level RF signals even under severe electromagnetic interference conditions.

Key Structural Differentiators
  • Outer Conductor (2:SC): Double-layer silver-plated copper braid with interlocking mesh structures. This nearly eliminates optical gaps (approaching 100% coverage), drastically reducing Transfer Impedance compared to the single-braid version.
  • Reinforced Bulk: Expanded diameters—2.40mm over braid and 2.90mm over jacket. Note: This larger footprint requires specific RG316D-sizing connectors (standard RG316 crimp tools are incompatible).
  • Reduced Flexibility: Minimum bend radius increases to 15mm. This is the physical trade-off for extra shielding; bending tighter than this may deform the dual braid and alter impedance.
Functional Purpose & Applications

The double shield acts as an "electromagnetic fortress." While the transmission loss (attenuation) remains exactly the same as standard RG316, the suppression of external noise ingress is vastly superior. Choose RG316D when:

  • Placed in high-density spectral environments (near cellular towers, radar arrays, or high-power switch-mode PSUs)
  • Handling ultra-low-level signals such as GPS/GNSS (e.g., -130 dBm), LNA front-ends, or software-defined radio (SDR) inputs where interference would completely swamp the received signal
  • Required for aerospace, defense, and medical imaging systems that demand strict EMC compliance
  • Routing cables alongside digital high-speed data lines (USB, Ethernet) inside shared wiring harnesses
Best suited for: Satellite navigation feeds, receiver front-ends, EW (Electronic Warfare) systems, test instrumentation in open-air environments, and automotive radar.
