Seamless pipe is a long strip of steel with hollow section and no joint around it. Features of seamless pipe: First, the thicker the wall thickness of the product, the more economical and practical it will be. The thinner the wall thickness, the higher its processing cost will be; Secondly, the process of the product determines its limited performance. Generally, the precision of seamless steel pipe is low: uneven wall thickness, low brightness on the inner and outer surface of the pipe, high sizing cost, and pockmarks and black spots on the inner and outer surface are not easy to remove; Third, its detection and shaping must be processed offline. Therefore, it embodies its advantages in high pressure, high strength and mechanical structure materials.
Seamless steel pipes are widely used in industries that require high strength, pressure resistance, and reliable performance. Due to their uniform structure and absence of weld seams, they offer excellent mechanical properties and higher safety compared with welded pipes. They are commonly applied in oil and gas transportation, water supply systems, boiler and heat exchanger equipment, and pressure pipelines. In construction and structural engineering, seamless pipes are used for load-bearing structures, scaffolding, and steel frameworks. In mechanical manufacturing, they are suitable for shafts, cylinders, hydraulic systems, and precision components. Seamless steel pipes are also widely used in shipbuilding, power plants, petrochemical industries, and industrial equipment manufacturing. With different material grades and standards available, seamless pipes can meet requirements for high temperature, high pressure, corrosion resistance, and low temperature service.
Manufacturing Process
Seamless steel pipes are manufactured from solid round steel billets without any welded seams. The production process begins with heating high-quality steel billets to a high temperature. The heated billet is then pierced at the center using a rotary piercer to form a hollow tube.
After piercing, the hollow shell is elongated and reduced to the required outer diameter and wall thickness through hot rolling, mandrel mill rolling, or plug mill rolling processes. For products requiring higher dimensional accuracy and better surface quality, the pipes may undergo cold drawing or cold rolling after heat treatment.
Subsequently, the seamless pipes are subjected to heat treatment such as normalizing, quenching, or tempering to improve mechanical properties. Surface treatments including black finish, pickling, phosphating, oiling, or painting can be applied according to customer requirements.
Finally, all pipes are inspected through dimensional checks, mechanical testing, and non-destructive testing to ensure compliance with international standards before cutting, packaging, and delivery.
