Palton PCD Diamond 90° Chamfering Carbide Graphite Milling Cutter PCD Coating End Mill for Graphite Electrodes Carbon Fibers
Why Your Machine Deserves Diamond
Question: How much does a tool change actually cost?
Not the insert. Not the catalog price. The real number: spindle stops, the operator walks over, the wrench comes out, the offset gets re-measured, the first piece gets checked, the scrap bin occasionally gets fed. Ten to fifteen minutes. Multiply by tool changes per shift. Multiply by shifts per month. Now ask yourself whether that "cheaper" carbide is still cheaper.
PCD doesn't cost more. It changes cost categories entirely.
Question: Why does Monday morning's first part measure differently than Friday afternoon's last?
Because carbide wears. Gradually, progressively, inevitably — the edge rounds, cutting forces increase, the tool deflects by a few more microns, and the bore
position drifts. The operator can chase it with offsets for a while. Eventually the insert gets swapped and the cycle resets.
PCD doesn't create this cycle in the first place. An edge that doesn't degrade doesn't produce drifting dimensions. The parts measure the same at hour one and hour eighty because the tool hasn't changed.
Question: Why is aluminum the easiest material to machine — and the hardest on tooling?
It's soft. It cuts like butter. And it welds itself to the cutting edge the moment heat and pressure reach a threshold. That built-up edge — a microscopic lump of aluminum fused to the carbide — becomes the de facto cutting surface, not the tool itself. Surface finish deteriorates. Dimensions wander. Eventually the deposit breaks off, taking a chunk of carbide with it.
Diamond has no chemical attraction to aluminum. The chip slides across the cutting face without bonding. No buildup, no tear-out, no periodic edge failure. Just clean cutting from start to finish.
Question: What happens to a composite panel when the drill bit gets dull?
It doesn't get a hole — it gets a scar. Carbon and glass fibers, instead of being sheared cleanly, get pushed ahead of the rounding edge until they fracture and splinter. The exit side delaminates. The part goes to scrap or rework.
PCD stays sharp through fiber-reinforced materials that destroy carbide in hours. Fibers get cut, not displaced. Exit quality stays intact.
Question: What if the tool I need doesn't exist in a catalog?
Then it gets designed. The engineering conversation starts with the part
