What are the differences between carbon-ceramic brake discs and conventional cast iron brake discs?
Carbon-ceramic brake discs offer significant advantages over conventional cast iron discs in three key areas: weight reduction, heat resistance, and durability. These advanced discs weigh only 40-50% of traditional iron discs, substantially reducing unsprung mass for improved vehicle handling and performance. With maximum heat resistance reaching up to 1,800°C, carbon-ceramic discs maintain consistent braking performance without fade during high-intensity driving conditions, including track use. They provide 3-5 times longer service life than cast iron discs while generating minimal brake dust and preventing hub contamination. The primary considerations are higher initial cost and slightly increased noise during low-speed cold braking compared to traditional discs.
