Description
The offset printing industry is experiencing a notable shift towards the adoption of Processless CTP (Computer-to-Plate) plates, primarily driven by the increasing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable printing practices. These plates offer a viable alternative to traditional CTP plates, which require chemical processing and have a detrimental effect on the environment.
Processless CTP plates are constructed using an aluminum base that is coated with a photosensitive material. When exposed to UV light, whether through a film negative or a digital file, a chemical reaction occurs within the photosensitive layer.
This reaction renders the exposed areas of the plate receptive to ink, while keeping the unexposed areas hydrophilic, repelling ink.
During the printing process, ink is directly applied onto the plate, which is mounted onto the printing press. The ink adheres to the exposed areas of the plate, while the non-image areas remain free of ink.
