Description
Processless CTP (Computer-to-Plate) plates, also known as chemistry-free CTP plates, have transformed the plate-making process in the printing industry. These plates eliminate the traditional steps of plate processing, such as developing, rinsing, and gumming, offering streamlined efficiency, cost savings, and environmental benefits.
Typically, processless CTP plates consist of an aluminum base coated with a light-sensitive layer. This layer contains a combination of photopolymers and other materials that react to laser energy during the imaging process. When exposed to the laser, the light-sensitive layer undergoes a chemical change, rendering the exposed areas hydrophilic (water-attracting) and the unexposed areas hydrophobic (water-repellent).
The imaging process for processless CTP plates involves the use of a laser diode or LED (Light Emitting Diode) exposure system. The laser or LED emits high-energy light that selectively exposes the light-sensitive layer, creating the desired image on the plate. Once the imaging is complete, the plate is ready for mounting directly onto the printing press without the need for any additional processing steps.
