Processless CTP plates, also called chemistry-free CTP plates, have transformed the plate-making process in the printing industry, offering numerous advantages compared to traditional plates. Typically, processless CTP plates consist of an aluminum base coated with a light-sensitive layer. When exposed to the laser, the light-sensitive layer undergoes a chemical change, making the exposed areas hydrophilic (water-attracting) while leaving the unexposed areas hydrophobic (water-repellent).
The imaging process for processless CTP plates involves the use of a laser diode or LED exposure system. These high-energy light sources selectively expose the light-sensitive layer, creating the desired image directly on the plate. Once the imaging is complete, the plate is ready to be mounted directly onto the printing press without requiring additional processing steps.
By eliminating the need for processing chemicals and reducing the number of steps involved, processless CTP plates offer increased efficiency and cost savings for printing companies. Additionally, the removal of chemical processing is environmentally friendly, reducing water consumption and eliminating the discharge of processing chemicals.
