However, carbon steel requires proactive engineering to combat corrosion from acidic water bottoms and sour gases. Efficient gas-liquid separation is defined by the ability to slow fluid velocity enough to allow gas bubbles to rise while liquid droplets settle. This is governed by Stokes' Law, which calculates the terminal rise velocity (vs) of a gas bubble:
