ST-01 Smoothness Tester is a high-precision equipment for measuring the surface smoothness of paper and board according to the Bekk Method. It is used to determine the smoothness of paper and board.
Smoothness is a metric used to evaluate the degree of unevenness on the surfaces of a paper. It indicates the flatness and smoothness of each paper's surface. In general, smoothness refers to the time required for air to flow through a certain amount between the sample surface and an annular surface under specific contact conditions and a certain pressure difference, measured in seconds (s). The longer the time, the better the smoothness of the paper, and the higher the smoothness rating. Generally, the higher the paper's smoothness, the better the print quality will be. Therefore, achieving satisfactory print quality requires smoothness as a necessary condition.
Time in seconds which, un-der a defined pressure differential, is required to draw a definite quantity of air at atmospheric pressure be-tween the surface of the test piece and a ring-shaped plane surface, under specified conditions of contact.
Subjection of a test piece of paper or board placed on a glass plate to a specified pressure and creation of a partial vacuum to draw atmospheric air across the contact surface. Measurement of the time required for a specified change in vacuum.
