White aluminum oxide is a high-purity form of Bayer process alumina. To ensure its quality, the raw materials and furnacing practices are carefully regulated. This makes for irregularly shaped particles with higher bulk densities compared to other ores.
This material is often used in afterglow phosphors, color phosphor illumination sources, abrasives, transparent ceramics, catalytic carriers, EP-ROM window, and various electronic ceramics. It has numerous other applications in various industries such as electronics, chemicals, petroleum, refractories, ceramics, glass, plastics, textiles, building materials, abrasives, paper, and medicine.
Chemical analysis of Al2O3 shows a minimum of 99.4% Al2O3, 0.04% SiO2, 0.04% Fe2O3, and 0.30% Na2O.
Physical properties include a white colour, material hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, a true density of 3.9 g/cm3, a bulk density of 1.60~1.95 g/cm3, and an Ignition-Loss (Ig-Loss) of under 0.09%.
White corundum is an excellent senior ceramic material with high hardness, good wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and thus has a wide range of applications in industry.
First, white corundum grinding wheels are often employed in metal processing finishing, due to its high hardness and stability that can easily meet different applications’ requirements.
Second, white corundum abrasives find large usage in grinding and polishing of metal surfaces, and even in the making of tools such as knifes.
