The Silicon Carbide-Stainless Steel Thrust Disc is a high-performance key component used for face sealing and axial positioning. Material and Properties
1.Face Material: Pressureless Sintered Silicon Carbide
Extreme Hardness & Wear Resistance: Its high hardness, second only to diamond and CBN, provides excellent resistance to abrasive media and erosion.
Excellent Chemical Inertness: Resists corrosion from strong acids, alkalis, and oxidizers, outperforming most metallic materials.
High Thermal Conductivity: Rapidly dissipates frictional heat, preventing localized overheating and ensuring operational stability.
Low Friction Coefficient: Performs exceptionally well against counterparts like carbon and ceramics, reducing starting and running torque.
2.Substrate/Backing: Stainless Steel
Outstanding Mechanical Strength: Provides robust structural support, capable of withstanding high axial loads and installation stresses.
Good Toughness: Prevents brittle fracture of the component during assembly and under pressure shock.
General Corrosion Resistance: The stainless steel substrate (typically 304 or 316) offers fundamental rust and corrosion protection for the entire part.
Composite Advantage: This combination leverages the strengths of both materials: Silicon Carbide handles the harsh frictional and chemical environment, while the Stainless Steel ensures the structural integrity and ease of installation of the entire part, achieving a synergistic effect.
Working Principle
The thrust disc primarily serves two functions in equipment: Axial Load Bearing and Face Sealing.
Axial Load Bearing: As a core component in thrust bearings, it is fixed onto a rotating shaft or housing. Its flat, hard face is used to carry and transmit axial loads, limiting the axial movement of the shaft.
Face Sealing: In mechanical seals, it is pressed against another smooth face (the stationary ring) under fluid pressure and spring force, forming a friction pair. This pair rotates relative to each other, preventing medium leakage and achieving dynamic sealing.
Synergistic Operation: The SiC face is responsible for maintaining minimal wear and stable sealing performance during contact, while the stainless steel substrate ensures the entire disc does not deform under pressure and temperature, and transmits pressure evenly.
