Industrial Applications
This versatile compound serves multiple industrial purposes including metal welding, electroplating, tanning, and as a drying agent in batteries. In mineral processing, it acts as an arsenic mineral inhibitor and plays crucial roles in non-ferrous metal leaching and rare/precious metal extraction. Additional applications include serving as a flux for tin/zinc plating, rust removal, and as an electrolyte in carbon zinc dry batteries.
Agricultural Use
As a nitrogen fertilizer, ammonium chloride demonstrates excellent performance with crops like rice, wheat, and cotton. Its yield-increasing effects surpass those of urea, while also enhancing fruit quality by reducing acidity and increasing sugar/Vc content. Though long-term use may gradually accumulate chloride ions and lower soil pH, research shows no adverse effects on soil structure or physical/chemical properties.
The compound's ability to weaken soil nitrification helps reduce nitrogen losses through leaching and denitrification. However, its poor flow characteristics and tendency to clump limit mechanical fertilization applications, impacting its market share as a fertilizer.
