The Dual-Purpose Agent in Water Treatment:
Coagulation and Phosphorus Removal: In water and wastewater treatment, ferrous sulfate acts as an inorganic coagulant. The ferrous hydroxide colloids produced during its hydrolysis effectively remove suspended solids, colloids, and phosphates from water through charge neutralization, adsorption bridging, and sweep coagulation. Its phosphorus removal effect is particularly notable, making it widely used in chemical phosphorus removal processes at municipal wastewater treatment plants to prevent water eutrophication.
