Product Overview
Span 20 (sorbitan monolaurate) is a lipophilic non-ionic surfactant. It appears as a pale yellow to amber oily liquid at room temperature with an HLB value of 8.6. While insoluble in water, it is soluble in oils, alcohols, and hydrocarbon solvents. It is stable in weak acids and alkalis and exhibits good compatibility with various other surfactants.
This product offers excellent performance in water-in-oil emulsification, dispersion, wetting, and defoaming applications. It is commonly used in cosmetics, food products, coatings, plastics, textile auxiliaries, and pesticide emulsifiable concentrates. It can be combined with the Tween series to adjust the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB).
Packaged in 200kg plastic drums. Store and transport as general chemicals in a dry, well-ventilated place. Standard packaging includes sealed plastic or iron drums. As a chemical raw material, it should be stored in a cool, dark place. Shelf life: 2 years.
Applications
Span 20 is soluble in oil and organic solvents; when dispersed in water, it forms a semi-emulsified liquid
In pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries: serves as W/O (water-in-oil) emulsifier, stabilizer, plasticizer, lubricant, and drying agent
In textile industry: acts as softener, antistatic agent, and finishing agent
Used as mechanical lubricant and additive-type anti-fogging agent with excellent initial and low-temperature anti-fogging and anti-dripping properties
Suitable for PVC (1-1.5%), polyolefin films (0.5-0.7%), and EVA films
Used as mechanical lubricant and emulsifier in petroleum and coatings industries
