Every inductor has a Parasitic Capacitance created between its winding layers. The Self-Resonant Frequency (SRF) is the point where the inductive reactance and this parasitic capacitive reactance cancel each other out. Beyond the SRF, the component ceases to act as an inductor and begins to behave like a capacitor. When designing for high-frequency filtering, engineers must ensure the operating frequency of the circuit is significantly lower than the SRF (typically below 1/10th of the SRF) to maintain stable inductance and prevent signal distortion or loss of filtering efficacy.
