Carboxymethyl Cellulose, CMC
The chemical structure of carboxymethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose is by introducing carboxymethyl cellulose glucose units on (- CH ₂ -cooh) group instead of hydroxyl groups. Its molecular chain contains a large number of carboxymethyl anion groups, which makes it have excellent hydrophilicity. This structural characteristic not only enhances its water solubility but also endows it with excellent properties such as thickening, dispersion, and colloid protection.
Appearance: are usually white or light yellow fibrous powder smell and taste: odourless tasteless, belong to the security level higher water-soluble materials: quickly dissolve in cold water, forming a transparent or translucent viscous liquid pH range of adaptation: has good adaptability to the pH change, generally applicable to pH4-10 environmental thermal stability: Resistance to high temperature, but under the condition of strong acid or alkali easy degradation of these features make CMC in various complex system can keep stable state and good performance.
Dissolving method the CMC is directly mixed with water, mixed into a paste adhesive solution, and set aside. When preparing the CMC adhesive, first add a certain amount of clean water to the mixing tank equipped with a stirring device.
With the stirring device on, slowly and evenly sprinkle the CMC into the mixing tank, constantly stirring to ensure that the CMC and water are completely mixed and the CMC can be fully dissolved. When dissolving CMC, the reason for evenly spreading it and constantly stirring is "to prevent the problem of CMC clumping and caking when it meets water, which would reduce the dissolution amount of CMC", and to increase the dissolution speed of CMC.
The stirring time and the time required for the complete dissolution of CMC are not the same and are two different concepts. Generally speaking, the stirring time is much shorter than the time needed for the complete dissolution of CMC. The required times for both depend on specific circumstances.
To determine the mixing time is based on the premise that when CMC is evenly dispersed in water, no obvious big crumb objects exist, can stop stirring, CMC and water under the conditions of stand for mutual penetration and mutual fusion.
To determine the basis of CMC time needed for a complete meltdown have such several aspects:
(1) CMC and water glue completely, does not exist between solid-liquid separation phenomenon;
(2) the state of mixed paste glue is uniform, the surface level off is smooth;
(3) the mixed paste glue close to colorless, transparent color, paste adhesive no granular objects. The time required from the moment CMC is added to the mixing tank and mixed with water until it is completely dissolved is between 10 and 20 hours.
