The BSM 4U series potato harvester is designed for agricultural tractors from approximately 20HP to 80HP. It is used to lift potatoes from prepared ridges, separate soil and crop residue, and place the harvested tubers on the field surface for manual or mechanized collection.
The machine combines a digging blade, conveying system and vibrating soil-separation structure. During operation, the digging blade enters below the potato ridge and lifts the potatoes together with the surrounding soil.
The potatoes and soil are transferred onto the vibrating conveyor. Loose soil falls through the conveyor gaps, while the potatoes move toward the rear of the machine and are placed gently on the field surface.
Different working widths and harvesting-row configurations can be supplied according to the tractor, ridge spacing, potato variety, soil conditions and required daily harvesting capacity.
The potato harvester is connected to the tractor through the rear three-point hitch. Depending on the selected configuration, the conveying and vibrating systems are driven by the tractor PTO or a mechanical transmission.
The front digging blade enters the soil below the potato ridge and lifts the complete ridge section. Potatoes, soil and crop residue then move onto the conveyor system.
The conveyor vibrates during operation. Soil particles fall through the conveyor bars or chain gaps, while potatoes and larger materials continue toward the rear discharge area.
The harvested potatoes are placed on the soil surface behind the machine. Workers or collection equipment can then gather the exposed tubers more efficiently.
| Configuration | Harvesting Rows | Matched Tractor | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact Model | Single Row | Confirmed According to Configuration | Small farms, narrow ridges and compact tractors |
| Standard Model | Single or Double Row | Confirmed According to Configuration | Small and medium potato farms |
| Wide Model | Multi-Row Configuration | Confirmed According to Configuration | Large potato fields and higher daily capacity |
Technical note: The 20-80HP tractor range is a general reference for the 4U series. Final tractor matching depends on working width, harvesting rows, machine weight, conveyor structure, soil resistance, field slope and tractor lifting capacity.

The harvester performs best when the potato rows and ridge spacing match the machine working width.
Loose soil passes through the conveyor more easily and helps reduce the amount of soil discharged together with the potatoes.
A relatively level surface helps the machine maintain a stable digging depth and improves harvesting consistency.
Long vines, dense weeds and heavy crop residue should be cut or removed before harvesting to reduce conveyor blockage.
The crop should reach the appropriate harvest stage before operation. Excessively wet or immature potatoes may be more sensitive to mechanical damage.
Tractor selection should consider engine power, tractor weight, rear lifting capacity, PTO specification, tire spacing, field slope, machine width and soil resistance.
A wider or heavier potato harvester requires greater rear lifting capacity and better tractor balance. Front counterweights may be required to maintain steering stability.
The tractor tire spacing should match the potato rows and ridge arrangement. Incorrect tire position may press the ridges before the digging blade reaches the potatoes.
The tractor PTO speed and direction must match the machine transmission. These specifications should be confirmed before production and delivery.
The digging blade should operate below the lowest potato layer. A blade that is too shallow may leave potatoes in the soil or cut exposed tubers.
Excessive digging depth increases soil load on the conveyor, raises tractor power demand and may reduce working efficiency.
The correct depth should be determined through a short trial operation. After checking the harvested potatoes and remaining soil, the operator can adjust the three-point hitch or depth-control components.
The conveyor speed and vibration intensity should provide sufficient soil separation without causing excessive potato movement.
In loose and dry soil, lower vibration may provide adequate separation. In heavier soil, a stronger separating action may be required.
Excessive tractor speed may overload the conveyor and increase potato impact. A stable operating speed should be maintained according to field conditions.
Mechanized potato harvesting reduces the manual labour required for digging and exposing potatoes. It can significantly shorten the harvesting period when labour availability is limited.
Stable digging depth helps reduce missed potatoes, while the vibrating conveyor separates soil and makes the harvested crop easier to collect.
The machine can also reduce repeated manual soil handling and improve the overall efficiency of potato production.
A potato harvester lifts mature potatoes from the soil, separates loose soil and places the tubers on the field surface.
A potato planter opens furrows, places seed potatoes, applies fertilizer, covers the seed potatoes and forms planting ridges.
The two machines form a complete potato production solution when used with suitable soil-preparation equipment and tractors.
For compacted soil, the field can first be loosened with a subsoiler. A mouldboard plough or disc plough can then complete primary tillage.
A disc harrow or rotary tiller can prepare a loose and level seedbed. The BSM 2CM potato planter can then complete seed potato placement, fertilizer application and ridge formation.
After crop maturity, vines and heavy surface residue should be removed. The BSM 4U potato harvester can then lift the potatoes, separate the soil and place the crop on the surface for collection.
The 4U series shown on this page is intended for tractors within an approximate 20-80HP range. Final power requirements depend on working width, machine weight, harvesting rows, soil conditions and tractor lifting capacity.
The standard mounted potato digger normally lifts the potatoes, separates soil and places the tubers on the field surface. A hopper collection system depends on the selected machine configuration.
Yes. The working depth can be adjusted according to ridge height, potato depth and soil conditions.
A double-row or wider configuration can be supplied according to ridge spacing, tractor power and customer requirements.
Operation in excessively wet soil is not recommended because sticky soil may reduce separation efficiency and increase conveyor blockage.
Correct digging depth, stable operating speed, suitable conveyor adjustment and harvesting at the correct crop maturity help reduce potato damage.
Many 4U potato harvesters use tractor PTO power to drive the vibrating conveyor. The PTO speed and driveline configuration must be confirmed according to the selected model.
Yes. BSM can customize the working width, harvesting rows, conveyor structure, color, logo and other components according to customer requirements.
Yes. BSM can recommend a tractor and potato harvester combination according to the working width, soil conditions, farm size and destination country.
For mechanized potato planting before the growing season, customers can choose the BSM 2CM series potato planter.
For fine soil preparation before potato planting, the BSM 1GQN series rotary tiller is available.
For breaking compacted layers before primary tillage, customers can select the BSM 3S series tractor subsoiler.
BSM can also provide compatible agricultural tractors according to the required harvesting width and local field conditions.
Please provide the tractor model, tractor horsepower, PTO speed, potato-row spacing, required harvesting rows, working width, potato depth, soil condition, farm area, destination country and purchase quantity.
