The austenitizing elements of the latter, in addition to Mn, also include N and often contain a small amount of Ni. Therefore, this series is mostly referred to as Cr-Mn austenitic stainless steel. Cr-ni series austenitic stainless steel contains about 18% Cr, 8% to 10% Ni, and generally less than 0.1% C, and has a stable austenitic structure.
This type of steel, in addition to being resistant to corrosion by oxidizing acid media, can also resist corrosion by sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, urea, etc. if it contains elements such as Mo and Cu. If the carbon content in this type of steel is less than 0.03% or it contains Ti and Ni, its resistance to intergranular corrosion can be significantly improved. High-silicon austenitic stainless steel has good corrosion resistance to concentrated nitric acid.
