It focuses on the A4-70 grade stainless steel used in the M24 and M27 bolts, nuts, and washers, emphasizing their ability to resist rust and corrosion. The high tensile strength of the A4-70 grade ensures they can withstand significant mechanical stress and are well-suited for structural, mechanical, and industrial applications. These fasteners guarantee secure connections that remain intact over extended periods, even in environments that typically degrade lower-quality materials.
Material and Corrosion Resistance
The A4-70 grade designation in this headline refers to a high-strength, corrosion-resistant stainless steel composition, ensuring these fasteners perform well in challenging environments. The M24 and M27 bolts, nuts, and washers have been designed to withstand mechanical stress, making them suitable for heavy-duty structural and industrial applications. Their high tensile strength (700 MPa yield strength) means they can bear significant loads without failure, making them perfect for critical installations, especially in extreme conditions like offshore rigs or chemical plants where both strength and durability are essential.
Applications
Stainless steels can be divided into three main groups based on their microstructure:
Austenitic Stainless Steels: This family of alloys is often referred to as the 300 series of stainless steels. Typical grades include 304 and 316 stainless steels, with 316 being the most corrosion resistant. The elemental composition includes about 18 per cent chromium and 8 per cent nickel. In addition to this, small amounts of nitrogen and manganese are included. Austenitic stainless steels are the most common corrosion resistant metals on the market.
Martensitic Stainless Steel: This family of alloys is often referred to as the 400 series of stainless steel, with a common grade of 420 A. This steel alloy also has 18 per cent chromium and no nickel, but has a higher carbon content and is harder than the other corrosion-resistant metals in the stainless steel family. However, this alloy is not as corrosion resistant as 300 series steel.
Ferritic Stainless Steel: This alloy is also part of the 400 series of stainless steels. The most common grade is 430 A. However, ferritic stainless steels have a much higher chromium content, up to 27% (to improve elasticity), but a lower carbon content (to make them more ductile).
Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex steel is a steel alloy that contains two different phases, hence the name. The common phases are ferrite and austenite. Duplex steels derive optimum properties from both phases and combine them into an advanced corrosion-resistant metal for the most challenging applications. Typical grades include 2205 (containing 22 per cent chromium, 5 per cent nickel and 3 per cent molybdenum) and S32750 (containing 25 per cent chromium, 7 per cent nickel and 4 per cent molybdenum).
