The manufacturing process behind many precision-machined parts is often not immediately apparent from their outward appearance. It is only when viewing a mold cavity or a hardened die that one truly marvels at the complex shapes achieved. This is where the Sinker EDM (Electrical Discharge Machine) excels.
Instead of traditional cutting methods, it utilizes the principle of electrical erosion: the electrode and workpiece do not make physical contact, relying instead on thousands of tiny electric sparks generated between them to perform the machining. Consequently, it can machine required shapes into hardened steel—materials that are often inaccessible to standard milling cutters. This equipment offers intelligent control and precision machining via a CNC system.
The D7132 is a CNC sinker EDM—a compact, precision machine designed specifically for machining mold cavities, contours, and complex shapes into hardened materials. During operation, an electrode shaped to match the target cavity is slowly lowered toward the workpiece surface; electric sparks erode the material to form the desired shape. This process involves no cutting force, burrs, or residual machining stress, ensuring a smooth, precise cavity every time.
The machine features a rigid cast-iron body and a precision-machined work tank, equipped with either manual or servo-driven axial positioning systems. The entire machining process is managed by a digital CNC system: users set the required machining depth and surface finish, and the machine controls the electrode's incremental descent while using dielectric fluid to flush the machining gap and remove eroded particles. The control cabinet integrates the power supply, display screen, and operation panel into a streamlined design that is easy to read and operate.
Conventional machining methods often struggle with hardened steel. In contrast, this machine can directly process hardened workpieces and finished parts without causing thermal deformation or tool marks, while maintaining exceptional consistency and repeatability when machining multiple cavities within a single program. For mold shops, tool-making departments, and precision manufacturing enterprises, this represents a qualitative leap from "single-piece prototyping" to "repeatable batch production."
