This material is derived from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers that undergo a controlled thermal stabilization process (pre-oxidation) at temperatures typically between 200°C and 300°C in an oxidizing atmosphere. This process chemically converts the thermoplastic PAN fiber into a black, non-melting, thermoset fiber structure, which is often considered a type of Aramid fiber due to its molecular structure change.
