I. Working Principle of a Centrifuge
1. Centrifugal Sedimentation Principle
A centrifuge uses a high-speed rotating drum to generate a powerful centrifugal force (typically thousands of times the acceleration due to gravity) to separate solid and liquid phases.
After sludge enters the drum, denser solid particles are thrown toward the inner wall of the drum, forming a solid ring layer, while the liquid forms a liquid ring layer and is discharged through the overflow port, achieving solid-liquid separation.
2. Solid-Liquid Separation Process
Sedimentation Phase: Sludge particles rapidly settle to the drum wall under centrifugal force, forming a high-concentration sludge layer.
Compression Dewatering Phase: The screw conveyor rotates at a speed slightly lower than the drum, pushing the settled sludge toward the conical end of the drum for further compression and dewatering.
Separated Liquid Discharge: The clarified liquid is discharged through the drum overflow weir, forming a separated liquid with low suspended matter content.
3. Influencing Factors
Particle Characteristics: The larger the particle diameter and the greater the density difference between the solid and liquid phases, the higher the separation efficiency (refer to Stokes' Law). Operating Parameters: Drum speed, feed rate, and residence time directly impact separation efficiency and need to be adjusted based on sludge properties.
II. Core Equipment Structure and Components
1. Drum System
Cylindrical-conical drum: The main structure consists of a high-speed rotating cylindrical section and a conical section. The conical end facilitates sludge concentration and discharge.
Material: Generally made of stainless steel or carbon steel with a plastic lining, it is corrosion-resistant and suitable for high-speed operation.
2. Screw Conveyor
Coaxially mounted with the drum, it is driven by a differential (usually 1-30 rpm slower than the drum), continuously pushing sludge to the discharge port.
The blades are coated with carbide or ceramic to reduce wear and extend life.
3. Drive Unit
Main Motor: Drives the drum at high speed, with a power range of 5-300 kW and a speed of 1500-4000 rpm.
Differential: Controls the speed difference between the screw conveyor and the drum, adjusting the sludge conveying speed and dewatering time. 4. Control System
The integrated PLC automatically adjusts the speed, differential speed, and feed rate, and monitors torque, vibration, and other parameters in real time to prevent equipment overload.
5. Discharge System
Solid Slag Outlet: An adjustable gate is installed at the cone end to control the sludge moisture content (typically 70-85%).
Liquid Flow Outlet: The separated liquid is discharged through a pipeline for direct reuse or subsequent treatment.

I. Drum System
1. Drum
This core component, typically a cylindrical-conical combination, achieves solid-liquid separation through high-speed rotation (1500-4000 rpm) generating centrifugal force (2000-4000 G).
Material: Stainless steel or carbon steel with plastic lining, for corrosion resistance and adaptability to high-speed operation.
Some models feature an overflow weir to adjust the liquid pool depth and optimize separation efficiency.

II. Screw Conveyor

The blades are coated with carbide or ceramic to reduce wear, making them suitable for highly abrasive sludge.
2. Reverse Spiral Design: A reverse spiral is designed at the conical end of the drum to prevent sludge accumulation and ensure smooth discharge.
III. Drive System
1. Main Motor
Provides power, with a power range of 5-300kW and supports variable frequency speed regulation for precise speed control.
Brushless motors are widely used in high-end models due to their low noise and vibration characteristics.
2. Differential
Controls the speed difference between the screw conveyor and the drum to adjust the sludge conveying speed and dewatering time.
Differential speed adjustment is achieved using a hydraulic motor or mechanical differential.
IV. Control System
1. PLC Control Unit
Integrates speed, differential speed, and feed rate adjustment functions, and monitors parameters such as torque and vibration in real time to prevent equipment overload.
Equipped with a touch screen or operation panel, it supports pre-programmed programs and manual intervention.
2. Safety Devices
Overload protection, speed limit alarm, and vibration monitoring ensure safe operation.
V. Discharge System
1. Solids Discharge
An adjustable gate is installed at the cone end to control the sludge moisture content (70-85%).
Some models are equipped with a scraper device to assist in solids discharge (such as flat plate centrifuges). 2. Liquid Outlet
The separated liquid is discharged through a pipeline and can be directly reused or sent to subsequent processing units.
VI. Auxiliary Components
1. Machine Base and Vibration Dampers
Flat-plate or I-beam steel structure, equipped with rubber dampers to reduce operating vibration;

2. Sealing and Anti-corrosion Components
The main shaft seal uses a mechanical seal or packing seal to prevent leakage;
