Its construction is a clever compromise, blending the key desirable properties of two different fibers to create a rope that is both functional and economical.
It is instantly recognizable by its classic "octopus" or "square" braid construction when relaxed.
Deconstructing the Name: A Layer-by-Layer Breakdown
1. 8-Strand Construction (The Pattern):
This refers to the rope's architecture. It is built from eight individual strands that are braided together in pairs (4 pairs total) in a precise over-and-under pattern to form a hollow braid.
Key Properties:
Round & Smooth: Creates a perfectly round, non-kinking rope.
Flexible & Easy to Splice: The hollow core makes it relatively easy to splice eyes and connections.
Balanced Load Distribution: The braided design helps distribute load evenly across all strands.
