Brand: 3M
Product Line: Scotchlok
Certifications: UL Listed and CSA Certified where appropriate
Key Features: Effective and reliable performance, variety of types/sizes/materials, easy installation, insulation grip for strain relief.
Key Features & Benefits:
One-piece, burr-free construction: Provides maximum electrical conductivity.
Electrical bright-tin plating: Offers maximum corrosion resistance.
Annealing: Relieves stress points and assures maximum installed strength.
Barrel-to-pad transition design: Minimizes flexing and bending.
Open-end design: Permits visual inspection of wire location before and after crimping.
Multiple V grooves: Provide maximum hold on wire for excellent holding power.
Crimp ridge: Designed for positive tool location, resulting in fewer miscrimps.
Non-slip ridge: Aids in tool positioning for proper crimping.
Beveled leading edge: Facilitates easy wire insulation entry.
Insulation grip (on select models): Provides a second crimp on wire insulation for additional strain relief, excellent for high vibration applications.
Temperature Ratings:
Non-insulated 3M terminals withstand temperatures up to 347F (175C).
Insulated 3M terminals withstand temperatures up to 221F (105C).
High Temperature Terminals and Connectors: Rated for continuous use at 900F (482C).
Technical Specifications (Examples):
Note: Detailed specifications for each product type (Ring Tongues, Forks, Disconnects, etc.) are extensive and provided in the original document. Below are examples of the types of data available.
TH-440: Compact, high-quality tool for 2210 AWG terminals. Features include anvil-type wire cutter, crimp dies for insulated/non-insulated terminals, cut-off dies for screws, and wire stripping stations.
TH-450: Versatile, heavy-duty tool for 266 AWG terminals. Features include anvil-type wire cutter, multiple crimp dies for insulated/non-insulated terminals, cut-off dies for screws, wire stripping stations, and strip length guide.
TR-482: Ratchet tool for simultaneous crimping of barrel and insulation grip on 2210 AWG insulated terminals. Features color-coded dies, field re-calibration, terminal locator, conductor stop, and positive closure.
TR-490: Ratchet tool for independent crimping of barrel and insulation grip on 2210 AWG insulated and non-insulated terminals. Features color-coded dies for insulated and non-insulated applications, field re-calibration, and positive closure.
Kits:
STK-1 (Scotchlok Terminal Kit): Filled with popular low voltage termination products, including terminals and tools. Housed in a durable metal box with organized compartments.
Scotchlok Steel Terminal Box (Empty): Metal case with plastic insert tray for organizing terminals.
Scotchlok Plastic Terminal Box (Empty): Plastic organizing box for terminals.
Glossary of Terms:
Adapters: To interconnect two connectors already attached to wires.
Block Fork: Same strength as a fork, but designed for terminal blocks with flat sides against the barrier.
Butt Connector: Uses chamfered barrel ends for fast wire insertion from both ends and a built-in wire stop. Must be crimped at both ends.
Closed-End Connector: Used for pigtailing two or more wires.
Fork: Allows rapid connection of wire, typically used on free-standing studs.
Locking Fork: Spring-like tongue locks onto the stud, even if the mounting screw is loose.
Parallel Connector: Similar to butt connectors but with overlapped wires and a single crimp in the center.
Pin Terminal: For installation in compression blocks, commonly used in Europe for terminating stranded wire.
Quick Connect (Disconnect): Attached by the female part's tongue slipping over the male tab, allowing easy and quick disconnection.
Ring Tongue: Standard tongue style, offering the safest and most reliable connection.
Tab: Uses a mounting hole for a rivet or screw.
Tap: Requires no wire stripping; wire is laid in the connector and crimped.
