1. How clean will the air really be?
That depends on the class you need — and yes, it is measurable down to the single particle. An ISO Class 5 cleanroom permits no more than 3,520 particles ≥0.5μm per cubic meter. At ISO Class 1, the limit drops to just 10 particles at 0.1μm. Achieving this requires a staged filtration train: pre-filter → medium filter → HEPA (99.97% at 0.3μm) or ULPA (99.9995% at 0.12μm). The number is guaranteed, tested, and documented.
2. What keeps dust from settling on my product?
Airflow design. In high-grade cleanrooms, laminar flow pushes a uniform column of clean air straight down at 0.30–0.45 m/s, carrying particles away before they can land. In lower grades, turbulent mixing dilutes and flushes contaminants through high air change rates — typically 20 to 60 per hour. Either way, dust doesn't get a chance to settle.
3. Can you hold temperature and humidity steady — really?
Yes — and the number is traceable. Precision HVAC loops hold temperature to ±0.5°C and relative humidity to ±3% RH. This matters because a 1°C drift during photolithography can shift critical dimensions, and a 10% humidity swing can ruin hygroscopic powders. The system compensates for seasonal shifts, equipment heat loads, and occupancy fluctuations automatically.
4. What stops dirty air from next door from leaking in?
Pressure — plain physics. Each clean zone is held at a higher static pressure than the adjacent, less-clean zone, typically 5–15 Pa. Air only flows one way: from clean to dirtier. Step through the cascade: ISO 5 → ISO 7 → ISO 8 → outside. Even when a door opens, dynamic damper compensation restores the gradient within seconds.
5. Do the walls and floors actually matter?
Absolutely. A single unsealed joint or sharp corner becomes a dust trap that undermines the entire HVAC investment. Panels are factory-laminated steel-faced sandwiches with interlocking seams sealed by neutral-cure silicone. Floors are seamless epoxy or raised-access with a 25 mm cove radius at every wall junction. No ledges. No gaps. No excuses.
6. Will static electricity kill my components?
Not if the floor and grounding network are designed for it. Conductive flooring — epoxy, PVC, or raised panels — keeps surface resistance between 10⁴ and 10⁹ Ω, providing a controlled path to ground. Personnel ground through wrist straps and conductive footwear. Combined with humidity maintained above 35% RH, the system eliminates the triboelectric charging that fries sensitive electronics.
7. How do people and materials enter without contaminating the room?
Through a protocol, not a shortcut. Personnel pass through a staged gowning sequence — street shoes off, coverall on, hood, boots, gloves — followed by a 15–30 second air shower at 25 m/s. Materials enter through interlocked pass boxes, often with UV-C sanitization. Nothing bypasses the protocol. No exceptions.
8. Can I prove the room stays compliant between audits?
Continuous environmental monitoring generates the proof. Particle counters sample at critical locations on a fixed schedule. Temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors stream live data to the BMS/EMS historian. Every reading is time-stamped, tamper-evident, and archived for audit retrieval — compliant with 21 CFR Part 11 and EU GMP Annex 1 data integrity rules.
9. Is running a cleanroom going to destroy my energy budget?
Not if it's engineered for efficiency. Cleanroom HVAC can account for over half of facility energy use, but VFD-driven fans, heat recovery wheels (reclaiming 60–80% of exhaust energy), and night/standby setback modes slash consumption without compromising cleanliness. The system breathes with demand instead of running flat-out 24/7.
10. How do I know it actually works before I trust my production to it?
Validation proves it. Installation Qualification (IQ) confirms everything is built to spec. Operational Qualification (OQ) tests performance across the full operating range. Performance Qualification (PQ) demonstrates the installed system meets your process requirements under real load. Plus ongoing requalification — semi-annual for aseptic, annual for non-sterile — keeps your audit file current and your confidence intact.
