A screw lotion pump is a manually operated, self-contained dispensing mechanism designed for viscous liquids like lotions, creams, soaps, and shampoos. It is mounted to a bottle via a threaded screw cap, creating a secure and leak-proof seal.
Its operation relies on a simple piston-and-cylinder pump. Pressing down on the actuator (the head) forces the piston into the cylinder, which pressurizes the liquid inside. This pressure opens an outlet valve while closing the inlet valve, forcing the product up through a dip tube and out the nozzle. Releasing the actuator allows a spring to return the piston, creating a vacuum that draws more liquid into the chamber, ready for the next stroke.
This design provides precise, measured doses with each pump ("dose metering"), minimizing waste and contamination. Key features often include a locking twist mechanism to prevent accidental discharge during travel and the ability to dispense a consistent amount of product, from a fine mist for serums to a thicker ribbon for creams.
