Dip Tube: Extends from the pump to the bottom of the bottle to draw up the liquid.
Foam Pump Mechanism (The Key Part):
Chamber: Where the magic happens. The liquid is mixed with air drawn in through a one-way valve.
Porous Mesh/Screen: A fine stainless steel or plastic mesh. As the liquid-air mixture is forced through this mesh, it creates a consistent, creamy foam.
Actuator/Nozzle: The head you press down. Directs the foam out.
Spring & Gasket: Returns the pump to its start position and maintains a leak-proof seal.
Overcap/Shroud: A decorative and protective cover that often snaps over the pump head to prevent accidental dispensing and dust contamination. It may have a flip-top or screw-on design.
On the Downstroke: Pressing the pump head forces a small, precise amount of liquid from the chamber through the mesh screen.
Air Intake: As the pump returns on the upstroke (via the spring), a vacuum is created. This vacuum draws more liquid up the dip tube and simultaneously pulls air into the mixing chamber through a dedicated intake valve.
Mixing & Dispensing: The next downstroke forces this new mixture of liquid and air through the mesh, transforming it into foam. The ratio of air to liquid (often between 10:1 and 20:1) determines the foam's richness.
