When planning the construction of a factory facility, prioritizing a building system with long-term resilience against risks is critical for controlling operational costs over the long haul. Prefabricated steel-structure factories represent the optimal choice; their comprehensive performance surpasses traditional construction methods—such as concrete or brick-concrete structures—enabling them to effectively withstand various potential hazards encountered during long-term production.
Steel components are prefabricated in factories and assembled on-site using bolted connections, eliminating the need for lengthy concrete curing periods. Compared to brick-concrete or reinforced concrete structures of the same scale, the construction timeline is reduced by over 50%, enabling faster production startup and capital recovery.
Although steel is dense, it possesses extremely high strength; the overall structural weight is only one-third to one-fifth that of reinforced concrete. This places lower demands on foundation load-bearing capacity, significantly reducing foundation construction costs—an advantage that is particularly pronounced on soft soil sites.
Steel structures offer excellent flexural and tensile strength, easily achieving massive single spans of 10 to 40 meters. With few or no internal columns, the space accommodates large equipment, production lines, and forklift traffic, while allowing for future production line modifications without obstruction from beams or columns.
Steel exhibits excellent ductility and toughness; it does not suffer sudden brittle fractures during earthquakes or heavy impacts but instead absorbs and buffers the force. Compared to brick-concrete facilities, the risk of earthquake damage is drastically reduced, making it ideal for heavy-duty manufacturing and warehousing workshops.
Steel components are standardized and modular, allowing the facility to be fully dismantled, transported, and reassembled elsewhere. The steel is recyclable, and its residual value at the end of its service life far exceeds that of concrete buildings, thereby minimizing fixed asset depreciation.
Steel beams and columns have compact cross-sections that occupy minimal interior space, increasing usable floor area by 5%–8%. High ceilings—8 meters, 12 meters, or more—can be easily achieved to accommodate overhead cranes, large machinery, and high-stacking storage requirements.
Steel structures feature pre-configured mounting points, allowing for the installation of overhead cranes, ventilation, skylights, insulation, and partitions without extensive demolition. Damaged components can be replaced individually, resulting in shorter repair times and minimal production downtime.
Although upfront material costs may appear higher, significant savings are realized across foundation work, labor, construction timelines, depreciation, and future modification costs. Construction avoids the dust pollution associated with large quantities of sand, gravel, and cement, and generates minimal construction waste, thereby meeting environmental assessment standards for green factories; additionally, the use of insulated color-steel panels helps reduce energy consumption for workshop air conditioning and heating.
