6. User Instructions

Pre-Installation Preparation:

1. Inspect each flange upon receipt for any signs of transport damage or surface defects.

2. Verify flange size, pressure class and material grade against project specifications.

3. Clean the socket bore and raised face sealing surface thoroughly using suitable solvent.

4. Check that pipe end outside diameter matches socket bore dimensions.

5. Use dedicated tools for copper-nickel material preparation to avoid cross contamination.

Installation Steps:

1. Insert the pipe fully into the flange socket until the pipe end reaches the socket bottom.

2. Withdraw the pipe approximately 1.6mm to create proper expansion gap.

3. Ensure the pipe is square to the flange face and properly centered.

4. Tack weld at minimum 4 equally spaced positions around the hub circumference.

5. Complete the fillet weld using TIG welding process with ERCuNi filler wire.

6. Use argon shielding gas during welding for proper protection.

7. Keep interpass temperature moderate, avoid overheating the material.

8. Clean weld area thoroughly after completing each pass.

Gasket and Bolt Installation:

1. Select gasket material suitable for the service medium and operating conditions.

2. Center the gasket on the raised face sealing surface.

3. Insert bolts and hand-tighten all nuts.

4. Tighten bolts evenly in a diagonal crossing pattern.

5. Apply torque in minimum 3 passes to achieve uniform gasket compression.

Post-Installation Inspection:

1. Perform visual inspection of all socket welds for surface defects.

2. Conduct pressure test as per project specifications.

3. Check all flange joints for any signs of leakage.

7. Product Precautions

1. Storage: Store flanges in a clean, dry and ventilated indoor area. Keep away from moisture, dust and direct outdoor exposure.

2. Material Separation: During storage and transport, keep CuNi flanges separated from carbon steel and other dissimilar metals to prevent contact corrosion.

3. Handle with Care: CuNi material is softer than steel. Avoid dropping, dragging or impacting during handling to prevent surface damage.

4. No Ammonia Service: CuNi 70/30 should not be used in environments containing ammonia or amine compounds, as this may cause material degradation.

5. Welding Protection: Always use argon shielding gas when welding CuNi material. Inadequate shielding will result in poor weld quality.

6. Dedicated Tools: Use separate tools, brushes and grinding wheels reserved for copper-nickel work to prevent iron contamination.

7. Flow Velocity: For seawater service, it is advisable to keep continuous flow velocity within reasonable limits to maximize service life.

8. System Compatibility: In piping systems, maintain material consistency where possible. If connecting to dissimilar metals, take appropriate isolation measures.
