This action prevents the signal from propagating in an unintended direction. Optical circulators can be used to achieve bi-directional optical signal transmission over a single fiber. The Fiber Optical circulators is commonly used in WDM networks, chromatic dispersion compensation, polarization mode dispersion, optical add-drop modules (DWDM OADM), OTDR optical amplifiers and fibre sensing applications.
