The D16A 16.0L engine is a previous generation product, typically producing 600 hp (2600 Nm) to 700 hp (3100–3600 Nm). It was used in traditional FH16 (non-Aero) and early FH16 Aero models (approximately 2012–2023). Commonly found in 4x2/6x2 tractors, heavy-duty transport vehicles, and double-trailer tractors, it is paired with an I-Shift or manual transmission and meets Euro V/Euro VI emission standards.

D16A is not a designation exclusive to "16.0L": D16A refers to a 16L inline-six diesel engine (e.g., D16A700), but the "16" in the FH16 series name is a historical brand symbol.
